This policy was developed by volunteers and staff together and endorsed by the CDT’s Board on 27/10/2003.
Moseley Community Development Trust (CDT) exists to lead the sustainable regeneration of the neighbourhood. In line with this vision Moseley
CDT seeks to involve volunteers to:
Ensure our services meet the needs of those they are aimed at
Provide new perspectives
Increase our contact with the community we serve
Provide volunteers with a supportive framework in which they can work
Our Commitment to you
Our aim is that:
You are offered choices for how you get involved and how much time you give
Your gift of time, skills and experience is carefully matched to a CDT need with your agreement
You are provided with appropriate training and encouraged to learn and develop within your role
You volunteer in an organisation which is seeking to be diverse and inclusive
You are consulted with opportunities to feedback and pass your experience on to others
Your volunteering is valued, acknowledged and well-supported
You know to whom you are accountable and who to talk to if there are problems
You are free to stop volunteering and can say ‘no’ at any time!
Moseley CDT aims to provide opportunities which will benefit the volunteer as well as the organisation they support
Moseley CDT does not aim to introduce volunteers to replace paid staff and expects that staff at all levels will work positively with volunteers
What the Trust asks for in return
As a volunteer we ask you to:
Take an interest in your role and the Trust’s wider work
Maintain good relations with other volunteers, staff and visitors
Take part in recommended training and meetings
Uphold relevant policies and practices, including those on volunteering health and safety, working with young children and young people and equal opportunities
Respect decisions taken by members of staff and the Trust Board
Act as an ambassador for the CDT and respect the need for confidentiality where necessary
Attend when you have agreed to do so, and if for any reason you are unable to be there, you inform your volunteer opportunity as soon as is practicable
If you feel unhappy or concerned about any issue in relation to your volunteering that you speak about your concerns to the designated person
The following guidelines deal with practical aspects of the involvement of volunteers. More detailed information, including copies of the various documents
referred to, is provided in the Volunteers Handbook.
All prospective volunteers will be interviewed to find out what they would like to do, their skills, suitability and how best their potential might be realised.
A Gift Relationship
Our staff / volunteer partnership is one of mutual support and benefit. Our staff provide the framework, organisation and forward planning; volunteers offer skills
and experience, time and support needed to enable to Trust to function on a daily basis.
As a volunteer you will have a Volunteer Agreement establishing what Moseley Community Development Trust undertakes to provide to you. This arrangement is binding in honour only and is not intended to create a legally binding contract. In addition you will be given a Volunteers’ Handbook summarising Trust policies and other important
All volunteers will have their travel and out of pocket expenses reimbursed, providing that evidence of expenditure

Induction and Training
All volunteers will receive an induction into Mosley CDT and on any issues specific to their own area of work. Training will be provided as appropriate. If as a
volunteer you feel that you require any additional training, you can discuss this matter with the volunteer co-ordinator and the Trust will do its best to fulfil your
The Volunteers Voice
Volunteers are encouraged to express their views about matters concerning Moseley CDT and its work.
All volunteers are covered by Moseley CDT’s insurance policy whilst they are on the premises or engaged in any work on the CDT’s behalf.
Health and Safety
Volunteers are covered by Moseley CDT’s Health and safety Policy, a copy of which is in the Volunteers' handbook.
